The Final Match

Euro 2012 concludes with the match up that nobody expected to see. Everyone knew Spain had what it took to make the finals but they had a rough road to get to that point. Italy was a team everyone knew would be strong but nobody expected to see them in the finals.

Stylistically this game is fairly straight forward Spain will pass the Italians to death while Italy will pick an chose their attack. Spain’s total football approach will meticulously break down Italy with quick passes and dominate possession. Italy traditionally have strong defense and will look to absorb the Spanish attack. When opportunity presents itself Italy will break with an attack and look for Balotelli. Set pieces will also be a big part of the Italy attack.

The game is a tale of two strikers at a crossroads in away. Fernando Torres of Spain was a laughing stock going into the tournament. A once dominate figure in world football had a falling from grace. Spain did not even start a striker they used all midfielders. El Nino has netted two big goals and looks better then he did at Chelsea. The downside is that Del Bosque still is hesitant to start a conventional striker. Many believe Spain are better when they start Torres but who knows what Del Bosque will do. Torres can have an impact on this game and what he does will be make or break for Spain.

From the Italy camp its all about Super Mario who right now is walking on air. Going into the Euro’s everyone was wondering what Mario was going to show up, the problematic lunatic or the goalscorer. To answer that one needs to just look at the stats Mario Balotelli has three goals and 0 red cards. He has shown his immaturity when he got the yellow for a goal celebration. Mario is unpredictable but has proven why he is Italy’s best player.

If Spain go on to win this will be their third straight major competition win and will make this Spanish team one of the best if not the best team ever. To win three straight competition (2 Euros and world cup) with the same core group of players is unheard of. Glory awaits the Spaniards its in reach. The only question is will they be able to capitalize and seize the ultimate glory.
