From when the puck dropped, the Philadelphia Flyers took control from the jump, starting with Claude Giroux laying a nice check on Sidney Crosby and then scoring the game’s first goal 32 seconds within the first period. From there it was all Flyers as they defeated the Pens 5-1 and win the series 4-2.
Ilya Bryzgalov, who was the third star from today’s game, had 30 saves. The defense in front of Bryzgalov was great as well, as the Flyers blocked 40 shots. The defense was so good that they held Sidney Crosby without a goal in this game. In today’s game, the Flyers were 1 of 3 on the power play, while the Pens were 1 of 5 on the power play. Erik Gustafsson in the second period, got his first postseason goal and gave the Flyers a 3-0 lead.
But the Pens did not die as Evgeni Malkin scored the lone goal on the power play in the second period. After that goal, the Flyers stole the momentum back as Danny Briere scored a goal to make it 4-1. Finally, in the third period to ice the game, Brayden Schenn scored an empty net goal to end the series for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers now wait to see who they play in the Eastern Conference semifinals but if they play like they did today, then they can go very far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
