The Red Sox have been working out at their new facility in Fort Myers under their new skipper and some things have changed. Players have been practicing bunting an pitchers have focused on hitting (Bobby V. must think the Sox are in the NL). The workouts have been a little more strenuous and Valitine seems to have endless energy.
Yesterday Bobby Valentine offically banned beer from the clubhouse and David Ortiz had his back. Big Papi also took a leadership role in addressing the team after ownership spoke.
Speaking of ownership, John Henry and Tom Werner spoke with the press yesterday and said they would spend more money if necessary. Henry indicated he had no interest in selling the Red Sox because he is “not motivated by money.” Henry also said he would apologize to Crawford in person for his remarks in the off-season about not wanting to sign him. Crawford was happy with the apology and also feels like his recovery from wrist surgery is going well and he could be in the opening day lineup.
Vicente Padilla wants to be a starter and thinks he will be in the rotation, he does not want to pitch out of the bullpen. Reliever turned starter Daniel Bard is becoming the new spokesman for the Jimmy Fund’s Rally Against Cancer, replacing Tim Wakefield. Dice-K thinks he will be back before the All-Star break and plans on pitching until he is 40. Bobby Jenks had a scare when his surgery went horribly wrong.
Today is photo day for the team.
