For the past ten years Michael Greving has been involved in preparing the Green Monster flag for special events at Fenway Park. My son and I were invited to help out today by Michael’s brother-in-law, Stephen Giaordano, along with his two sons in preparation of the July 4th game at Fenway.
The group carried the flag along the outfield grass in front of the monster and laid it down carefully on a tarp. Once the flag was spread out it was folded and wrapped into a small green tarp, tied and hoisted to the top of the monster for unfurling during the pregame ceremony tomorrow.
Afterwards everyone took pictures in front of the monster and lingered as long as possible on a beautiful Fenway morning. It was my son’s first time at Fenway and tomorrow he will attend his first game there and watch the flag he helped fold come down on the monster. Pretty special day for sure.
