If this is how it's going to be the rest of the season, the Angels may still be in for quite the postseason run. When owner Arte Moreno lured Josh Hamilton away from the Texas Rangers last winter, he envisioned nights like this one occurring all summer long. Angels fans anticipated an offense so prodigious that every ballpark the ballclub set foot in would be painted red after the Halo'd bats were finished devouring opposing pitchers alive.
It needn't be said how far off from those expectations this team has been in 2013. All has been well-documented, both here in this space and elsewhere across the internet.
But for one night, the Angels looked like the ANGELS that Arte's pocketbook tried to buy. One need look no further than to the Four-headed Beast that is Mike Trout, Albert Pujols Josh Hamilton, and Mark Trumbo. The first inning set the tone for the rest of the evening. After Erick Aybar double'd to lead off the game against Chicago's Jeff Samardzija, Trout hammered him home with a double down the line. Pujols followed with a walk, and Hamilton brought them all home with a three-run shot to centerfield.
The party didn't end there, either. Feeling left out, Trumbo crushed a ball against the wind into left field. 4-0 Angels. The rest, as they say, was carnage. Pure, unadulterated carnage. It is also important to note that C.J. Wilson turned in another dominant performance, after his drubbing of the Astros one start ago.
