I think we are spanning the decades,” said Coach Caldwell. “Tom Moore in the 50’s and 60’s. Then I was there in the 70’s and then we have the younger guys coming through the ranks. I think it is a very unique opportunity. I am not certain that I have ever been in a place, particularly in coaching, where we have had as many guys from the same university.”
The Hawkeye feel isn’t lost on the players who once called Iowa City home.
“It’s nice to have friendly faces around,” King said.
Just getting to this point is never easy for any college player who aspires to play in the NFL and the work that these former Hawkeyes did at the college level under the watchful eye of the Iowa coaching staff helped them prepare for this moment.
“There is no question that they (Iowa coaches) do a tremendous job,” said Coach Caldwell. “They have sound and disciplined guys that are extremely capable athletically. They also have guys that have a work ethic that is pretty special that can make an impact on a team. We have had a run of them of late and we certainly appreciate the work that they have been doing at my alma mater and we are benefitting from it.”
