The Jon Jay Era Has Ended In St. Louis

060809-2

Yesterday the Cardinals traded OF Jon Jay to the San Diego Padres for IF Jedd Gyorko (plus some cash considerations on Gyorko’s contract).

Time flies – Mr. Jay just completed his 6th season with the Cardinals after being called up in 2010.

  • 757 games played
  • .287/.354/.384/.738 slash line
  • 676 hits (plus 44 postseason hits)
  • 325 runs  (plus 24 postseason runs)
  • 10.9 total WAR (peaked in ’12 w/ 3.4 WAR)

Besides having a catchy 2 syllable full name, Mr. Jay will be remembered as an important bridge in the Cardinals organizational transition from Tony LaRussa (get me a good free agent) to Mike Mike Matheny (we can develop our own).

He was also loved by his teammates…

Easy, Yadi.

An outfit called ‘MLB Highlights 2012’ has already made a tribute reel:

But don’t forget the time Jay and David Freese were on College Humor’s ‘Baseball Talk’:

Or the time he gave The Cat a tour of his spring training house:

Best of luck, Mr. Jay. You were a good Cardinal.
