The last homestand of this historically bad last third of a season begins tonight as the Reds make their way to PNC Park. Both the Reds and Pirates are just playing out the string at this point, trying to make something of their lost seasons. The Pirates need one more win to get to the dubious milestone of 70. The Reds could have a shot at .500 or better if they sweep the Pirates.
Jeff Locke takes the mound for the Bucs tonight, still looking for his first solid big league start. He goes up against Edinson Volquez. Volquez has been awful this year, but he still strikes out a ton of hitters, which bodes poorly for the Pirates. First pitch is at 7:05. Enjoy baseball (as much as the Pirates can be “enjoyed” I guess) while you still can.
