When Tony Allen signed with the Memphis Grizzlies this past summer, the door was opened for Marquis Daniels’ return. After great early contributions last year, a thumb injury put a huge damper on the rest of his 2009-10 campaign.
This season, Marquis has continued to contribute, but not just offensively. He has been playing phenomenal defense-picking up key steals, creating easy baskets for his teammates with great passing and also grabbing boards. His deflections, grabbing loose balls to create tie-ups and flat-out hustle have been impressive.
And now with the bad news coming last night in the form of a broken-wrist for Delonte, Marquis will be counted on even more. In last night’s hard-fought victory over the Nets at home, Marquis had a stat-line that has been common for him early on this season: 4 points, 3 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals and a block. In Monday’s win over the Hawks, Quis put back 3 Atlanta shots, and grabbed 4 boards to go along with an assist.
He is playing smart basketball and making his teammates better. These are the “little things” that make-up Celtic basketball and the Ubuntu philosophy that Doc and these C’s have grown to trust and believe in. “I am what I am because of who we all are.” As the season goes on, I believe Marquis will continue to be a key contributor to this Celtic squad.
Did you catch the Big Shamrock saying “Good job Quis..” ?
