Ken Rosenthal sent Red Sox Nation abuzz with a rumor that the team is trying to deal Mike Lowell even if they have to pick up half his salary. With Victor Martinez being available to play first and Youk’s ability to play third, Lowell’s hip injury is a problem the team can solve. Lowell is in the last year of his contract so he will not be a long term liability for the Red Sox if he is not traded during the offseason. What makes this bigger news is that the Red Sox are trying to make room for a guy like Adrian Gonzalez. As The Bottom Line points out, there are plenty of teams that could use the services of Mike Lowell. The Red Sox would not trade Lowell if they didn’t think they could land Gonzalez, so if Lowell goes you can bet that a deal sending Gonzalez to Boston is not far behind. There is also the possibility that the Sox include Lowell in a three team deal for Gonzalez
