As today’s game is going on, the official Tigers twitter page broke the news:
Sad to see Nate Robertson/Gum Time go because he made his home in Michigan and had been around a long time – and he was a key piece to the 2006 World Series team. This is what the Tigers felt was best, I guess.
The decision was most likely made before today’s game against the Orioles, but the timing of the announcement was interesting. It was Tweeted immediately after Willis struck out two hitters in the first inning and retired the side 1-2-3. Let’s hope he’s officially back to form, but I’m still somewhat skeptic. Either way, congratulations are still in order; he’s undoubtedly worked hard to get to this point.
