From North Dakota to Philadelphia.
Carson Wentz is now an Eagle. With the 2nd pick in the NFL Draft the Philadelphia Eagles took the shot and drafted QB Carson Wentz. In fact, the Eagles have once had a Quarterback from South Dakota. This QB also were the number 11 jersey, the same jersey we expect Wentz to wear. That Quartetback is the late Norm Van Brocklin. Van Brocklin is in the hall of fame and also won the 1960 championship with the Eagles. Maybe Carson Wentz will be our Van Brocklin and win us the Superbowl for the first time. The Eagles staff have high hopes, and they truly believe the sky is the limit. The Eagles staff has loved him through this whole process so far. After the pick, coach Doug Pederson was asked about Wentz. He said the following:
“Well, obviously his ability to win football games. He’s coming from a winning tradition, winning program at North Dakota State. He’s a winner himself. You’ve got to love the intangibles about him, and just when you get a chance to meet him in the building one-on-one, his demeanor, his aggressiveness, his willingness to learn – sharp kid, really was a very attractive pick for us and a very good fit for us.”
They believe he is the perfect player for them. In their eyes Carson Wentz fits exactly what they want to do. It is said that it is best for a new coach to get his own QB. Here is a little fact to get you all excited. Winning Super Bowl quarterbacks have been drafted in the first round 55.3 percent of the time. If you ask me, that is a pretty good number. In fact, Carson Wentz hopes to win Super Bowls, Eagles offense similar to North Dakota State’s – NJ.com:
“Carson Wentz leaves North Dakota State, a program that has won five consecutive FCS National Championships and after getting drafted by the Eagles with the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft, hopes to help win Philadelphia’s first Super Bowl. “That’s the goal,” Wentz said, “I hope to call Philadelphia my home for a long time. Hopefully we can win a lot of games, win Super Bowls. But, you have to take it one day at a time. I’m holding myself to high expectations and hopefully we’ll win a lot of games.”
Carson Wentz is a winner and he will bring great things to Philadelphia. Not only is he a stud on the field, he is also a stud off the field. For one, this man scored a 40 on the wonderlic. That itself is pretty impressive. He is also said to be very smart when it comes to the whiteboard. He can take in information like it is nothing. Here is what Howie Roseman had to say on the matter,
HOWIE ROSEMAN: “Well, first, Doug talked about the intangibles. I mean, what are the intangibles? 40 [Wonderlic Test] score; Valedictorian of his high school class; never got a B. So that’s important with that work ethic. And then he’s got rare physical skills: the athletic ability, the throwing arm, the body type and he’s someone that can just kind of be molded into whatever you want, and when you have the coaches that we have and the support system that we have, it’s exciting. One player can change your team, and for us, we know how important that is, that position, and so investing in that position was a no-brainer.”
You can expect Carson Wentz to come to Philadelphia and take everything in. He learn so much from Coach Pederson, Coach Reich, and guys like Chase Daniel and Sam Bradford. This will prepare him for a great future. There is no doubt he can play football. At North Dakota State he was a monster. But, he will bring his mentality and determination to the Eagles. He has this passion for football and this passion for winning. Welcome to Philadelphia Carson Wentz. The future is going to be bright with Carson Wentz taking us to new heights.
