Notre Dame finally received their first verbal commitment for the incoming class of 2012 on Wednesday when California cornerback, Tee Shepard gave his pledge to the Irish.
Shepard had offers from all over the country and is generally considered to be one of the top 3 cornerbacks in the entire country. That’s nice and all, but what is more important, is that Tee fits exactly what Brian Kelly and Bobby Diaco are looking for in their defensive backs. Shepard’s size at 6’1″ and 175 pounds fits the exact mold for a corner in this system.
Shepard plays extremely physical, and his confidence is borderline cockiness- all traits of great corners.
The addition of Shepard to the depth chart goes beyond important with the future losses of Robert Blanton and Gary Gray after the 2011 season. The rest of the corners on the depth chart lack good expierience, if any at all. This was certainly a factor in Shepards commitment as he will compete for playing time the moment he steps on campus.
1 down, and about 19 to go with signing day 11 months away. Welcome to ND, “Golden Tee!”
