Many NFL draft entrants are working out this week in front of scouts with stop watches and scales and tape measures. It makes sense from a scouting standpoint. It doesn’t make sense to obsessively cover it as has been done by everyone .The NFL Network, sure. What else are they going to do? Everyone else? Just ignore it.
It’s sort of an absurd event. Basically, it’s a physical, a test for some measurable skills like speed and leaping ability and a quick interview. There is nothing inherently ‘football’ about the event, except that it is all football players and team employees. And for the most part, cameras aren’t allowed (unless they are NFL Network) giving it an element of mystique that is entirely undeserved.
It’s the only football event for another 2 months, when the draft occurs, so people go a little silly over it. Fortunately, Google finds the whole affair just as weird as I do. When searching for an image to go with this post, I found two dudes riding an elephant.
