On the mound for the Phillies tonight was not Vance Worley, but instead Kyle Kendrick, who pitched great in a spot start. Kendrick pitched six innings with four strikeouts and gave up three hits and one earned run. The key for Kendrick was getting ground balls and not leaving his pitches up in the zone.
In the eighth inning, the Phillies and Cubs were tied up 2-2 until Carlos Ruiz hit a solo home run to put the Phils up three runs to two. Then, putting the game out of reach in the 9th inning, Ty Wigginton hit a RBI single to bring home Freddy Galvis and Mike Fontenot. Finally, the icing on the cake came when pinch hitter Hector Luna, who was recently called up from Lehigh Valley, hit a grand slam to give the Phillies nine runs on the night. The Phillies defeated the Cubs 9-2.
Tomorrow night at 8:05 pm, the Phillies will be looking to push their winning streak to five and sweep this quick two game series from the Cubs. On the mound for the Phillies will be Roy Halladay (3-3) and for the Cubs, Chris Volstad (0-5).
