Before, Tuesday night’s Phillies-Mets game had begun, the Phillies had got some bad news. They found out that their ace pitcher Roy Halladay will be out six to eight weeks with a lat strain injury behind his right shoulder, he was also put on the 15 day disabled list. But when the game finally got underway, the Phillies were down 3-2 to the Mets going into the fourth inning. You know it was not the Phillies day, when pitcher Joe Blanton gave up a solo home run to Mets rookie starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner. That was Hefner’s first Major League hit and he crushed that ball to left field.

Hefner pitched a very good game himself as he pitched six innings, gave up six hits and three earned runs, and struck out four Phillies hitters. The Phillies tried to get back in this game in the sixth inning as Hunter Pence hit a RBI triple and drove home Juan Pierre at that point the Phillies would be only down 4-3, but Pence would stay at third base for the rest of that half inning. Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Mets would tattoo Joe Blanton with a two run home run hit by Scott Hairston giving them a 6-3 lead and it would stay like that as the Mets defeated the Phillies 6-3.

Phillies starting pitcher Joe Blanton did not have a good game at all. Blanton pitched five innings, gave up nine hits and six earned runs, and struck out four Mets hitters. Freddy Galvis and Shane Victorino did not do so well either, both of them went 0 for 4 and had one strikeout a piece. With catcher Carlos Ruiz out day to day with a hamstring, Victorino needs to get some hits because this pitching staff will need help holding and keeping leads.

On Wednesday night at 7:10 pm, it will be the rubber match of this series and on the mound will be Cliff Lee (0-2, 2.82 ERA) for the Phillies, who will be looking for his first win this season and opposing him will be pitcher Dillon Gee for the Mets (4-3, 4.92 ERA).
