Tonight, the Philadelphia Phillies offense came out to play and handed the National League’s highest scoring offense, the St. Louis Cardinals a loss. The Phillies defeated the Cardinals 10-9. The Phillies offense tonight cranked out 10 runs on 18 hits, while the Cards offense cranked out nine runs on 15 hits. As you can see, pitching was not a big factor in this game.
Phillies starting pitcher Joe Blanton pitched 4.1 innings, gave up 10 hits and seven earned runs. Cardinals starting pitcher Jake Westbrook did not pitch well either. Westbrook pitched 3.2 innings, gave up eight hits and six earned runs. The Phillies bullpen picked up the slack and only gave up five hits and struck out five batters. Phillies second baseman Freddy Galvis led the offense tonight, going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Galvis’ batting average is now .250 and he has 17 RBIs this month alone.
The Phillies will be looking to push their winning streak to three games on Friday night at 8:15 pm. On the mound for the Phillies it will be Cliff Lee (0-2, 2.66 ERA) and on the mound for the Cardinals it will be former Phillie Kyle Loshe (5-1, 2.91 ERA).
