Today, the Philadelphia Phillies recalled infielder Michael Martinez from Triple A Lehigh Valley and designated for assignment infielder Mike Fontenot.
This season, Fontenot played second and third base for the Phillies and was pretty productive for the most part. For the Phillies, Fontenot had a .289 batting average with one home run and five RBIs. In terms of Michael Martinez, he has only been with the big league club for 16 games and so far this season he has only one home run and a .133 batting average.
