The Phillies sign Willis

This morning, the Phillies made news by signing free agent pitcher Dontrelle Willis. It is a one year major league contract worth about $1 million dollars. But this is a non-guaranteed contract which means Willis has to perform good in spring training to make the Phillies roster.

Last season for the Cincinnati Reds, Willis had a win/loss record of 1-6, with 57 strikeouts, and had an ERA of 5.00. With those stats and the current rotation that the Phillies have, I doubt that Willis will be used in the starting staff. But where I see Willis at is in the bullpen, as another lefty specialist. Against left handed hitters last season, Willis struck out 20 and just walked two, while just holding them to a .127 batting average overall.
