The Pirates’ Ralph Kiner Had A Wheaties Commercial In The 1950s That Sucked

fan

Before I begin: Wheaties suck.

Above is Michael Fitzmaurice, who from all I can tell as a lifelong Pirates fan, was never a Pirates announcer. He was a radio actor and was the voice of Superman. But Wheaties makes awful cereal and is a liar.

This old 1950s television commercial for Wheaties features Fitzmaurice in unmistakable 50s-era radio and television ad style of shilling for products. What, no Hula Hoops or Ovaltine?

Ralph Kiner was a fantastic player and HOFer. But Fitzmaurice alludes to Wheaties helping Kiner win games with walk off home runs. The only stats available show Kiner with 8 career walk off shots. So he only ate 8 bowls of Wheaties lifetime?

I want to see Andrew McCutchen stump for something awesome like Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Reese’s Puffs. Or Zane Smith for Sprinkle Spangles.
