The quarterfinals of the European Championship are about to kick off with some great matchups. The quarterfinals look to be highly entertaining and competitive. They run from the 21st-24th of June with one game being played every day at 2:30 pm on ESPN.
Czech Republic v Portugal: The Czech’s have won group A after beating Greece and Poland. Portugal finished second in group B after beating the Netherlands and Denmark. Although the Czech Republic have finished top of their group, they are not the favored to win against Portugal. With Ronaldo stepping up and netting a few goals in the last game the Portuguese look to be firing on full cylinders. The winner of this game will most likely play Germany.
This game will be as entertaining as Portugal will let it be. If Ronaldo, Nani, and the rest of them show up and play well this game will be easy to watch. The Czech’s can easily win this game with good defense and capitalizing on their opportunities but I fancy the Portuguese.
Germany v Greece: Greece advanced with some unattractive football. They look to be the weakest side in the quarterfinals going against the best team. Germany has looked superb yet has not reached their full potential. They have yet to put together a complete game. They are the only team that has been able to dominate but still expect more.
Greece looked like their 04 side that won the Euros with some opportunistic football but the Germans are just too strong. Mario Gomez has been a beast netting three goals in three games. The Greeks would need a 300 like performance and even then I do not see them slaying the Germans.
England v Italy: One of the most tantalizing matchups features two historically strong teams. England has a quiet confidence about them and Italy seems to get better with each passing game. To make the game even better, England’s star Wayne Rooney should have a bigger impact given his extended time with the team.
The Italians look strong and with Mario Balotelli finding the back of the net, the Azzuri appear to be more dangerous than first thought. The English have many flaws in their game which should make the match entertaining. I see Italy pushing past England in a very well contested battle.
Spain v France: The biggest game of the quarterfinals featuring the reigning world champions Spain going against powerhouse France. France was everyone’s dark horse team and even though they advanced they have yet to live up to expectation. This game is going to be a beautiful game and a joy to watch.
Spain will attempt to dominate possession by using their subliminal passing skills and work the French the death. The French are going to have to go after the game and create opportunities on their own. It is going to be a closely attested affair and must watch foreshore. I think Spain wins off a Fernando Torres goal.
