The Celtics finally reached a buyout agreement with the soon-to-be-retired Rasheed Wallace.
The Boston Celtics announced today that they have waived forward/center
Rasheed Wallace after coming to a mutual agreement following which
Wallace plans to retire.
“We would like to thank Rasheed for everything that he did for this team
and organization last season,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of
Basketball Operations. “We would like to wish Rasheed and his family the
best as they move on into the next phase of their lives. He will always
be a member of the Celtics family.”
No word yet on the buyout number. Danny Ainge tried to shop the expiring contract, but was unable to find a partner.
Wallace was a huge disappointment last season (averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds in 22 minutes). He was out-of-shape and horrible from 3 FG (28%). While he cranked up his defense a notch in the playoffs, his numbers were still sub-par (averaged 6 points, 3 rebounds in 17 minutes). He does deserve credit for playing with a back injury in the Finals.
In the end… he fell far short of expectations. Ball don't lie.
