The Red Sox brand has suffered damage similar to that of Netflix. The September collapse and the news of clubhouse problems along with the departure of Francona have left the team in disarray. The majority of fans seem upset with ownership and some of the players for the lack of effort and urgency that led to Tito’s frustration and ultimate separation with the team. Some of the more popular players before the collapse like Beckett and Youk have had their reputations tarnished. Recent addtitions to the club like Lackey and Crawford are despised by a large percentage of the fan base and Theo is no longer viewed as a miracle worker.
There will be those that say this will be good, that it will get rid of the bandwagon fans and bring ticket prices back down to earth. Maybe so, but right now this team still has a huge payroll and a boat load of talented players. The Red Sox brass has their hands full in not just finding a new manager but also fixing the clubhouse damage and repairing the brand. The natives are restless and if ownership thought by not bringing back Tito the fans would be placated they are mistaken. There is going to be more bloodletting this offseason and it would not be a major surprise if Theo doned the gorilla suit once again and headed to Chicago.
This has been a month of bad news for Red Sox fan with no good news coming anytime soon.
