If this team is to have any chance of making the post-season they must take three out of four games against the Yankees in the Bronx. The series is big for the Yankees too as they will be trying to make it a two team race in the A.L. East by eliminating the Red Sox. Two of the four games will be on national TV and the series should breathe some new life into the rivalry.
The Red Sox chances of making the playoffs without Kevin Youkilis are not great, especially when you consider the team is 5.5 games out of the wildcard as get deeper into August. This series will let us know if there is still a chance for Red October or if preparations for the 2011 season will start early.
