This season, the Celtics welcomed-back fan favorite Brian Scalabrine and former assistant coach Tom Thibodeau. Both were given big ovations and nice video tributes on the Jumbotron.
This coming Wednesday, former Celtic Tony Allen will make his return to the Garden. Now T.A. was the type of guy that most people felt like they could love on some nights and dislike on others. That was mostly due to some of Tony’s inconsistent and at times, baffling play. But one thing that you cannot take away from Tony is his 2007-08 NBA Championship ring. His defense and hustle off the bench was key in Boston’s title run.
This season Tony’s been playing pretty solid ball. He’s averaging 8.3 ppg, playing good defense and bringing the energy each time he’s out on the floor. I will most remember Tony for that ridiculous play last season against Minnesota when he and Eddie House blew the roof of the Garden. Unfortunately, the most attention T.A. has garnered this year was for an incident where he punched teammate OJ Mayo in the face.
So if you’re at the Garden Wednesday night, will you cheer loudly for T.A.? Will you boo him? Or will you simply do nothing? I personally won’t be there, but if I was, I’d definitely give this kid respect and stand-up and clap for him. Sure, he made some boneheaded plays while he was here, but he gave 100% each & every night he suited up for the green. Not to mention coming-back from a torn MCL and ACL in just 9 months time. That’s Gucci.
