Two big time pieces of news have come out recently regarding Wisconsin football and college football on the whole and both are worth exploring further.
First amongst those is the makeup of the College Football Playoff selection committee, which will be made up of 14-20 people and will not include any current coaches, conference commissioners and the like. So, naturally the name of Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez has been floated.
To that end, Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal gets on board the Alvarez for selection committee bandwagon and we fully agree. Alongside longtime Nebraska head coach and now retired former AD Tom Osborne there isn't a more perfect candidate for this committee than Alvarez. He's still hooked into the sport on a day to day basis and he has always been one of the more honest men in the sport.
As for the second bit of news, well, yesterday CBSsports.com reported that the long rumored series between Wisconsin and LSU is all but a done deal, with the two meeting in Houston in 2014 and at the home of the Green Bay Packers, Lambeau Field, in 2016-18.
Can you say organizing a massive tailgate in my hometown for a Badger game anyone? Who's up for some planning and massive blowout? If so, find us on Twitter, Facebook, or hit the contact button at the top of the page.
Wisconsin hockey has had a very positive summer so far as they have landed a few prospects for the 2015 season, the latest of which is Ryan Wagner, a 17 year old center prospect, who is scheduled to play the next two years in the USHL for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. He's also the latest in the long line of prospects out of the Chicago Mission midget program.
After losing out on the Top 5/4 lists for their top two QB prospects in the 2014 class (Kyle Allen and DeShone Kizer) UW has quickly put out a new offer to the next big name on their target list, D.J. Gillins. it's something Badger247 explores in the latest Recruiting Buzz segment.
ESPN.com's Big Ten blog explores the candidates for a 1,000 yard rushing season in 2013 and in not so shocking news both James White and Melvin Gordon appear on the list. If both reach that mark this Badger team is going to contend for another conference title to say the least.
Finally, in the you seriously can't make this stuff up department: Ohio State president Gordon Gee made his attempt at comedy back in December and it's safe to say his jokes about Catholic priests, Jim Delany, and the SEC fell a little short of flat.
Although it would be hard to argue with his comments about the SEC fanbase talking about the Big Ten's membership numbers – I mean, the next time any school in that conference outside of Vandy (who's really only a member because of academic reasons) is talked about as an outstanding institution of higher learning will be the first.
