Want a sure sign that summer is near? Go no further. The Sconnie Scoop is back and ready for its second summer as your home for news and notes around the UW Athletic Department (queue the triumphant entrance music).
So, without further ado, let’s welcome back the Scoop…
When attending a University of Wisconsin athletic event, it is commonplace for many spectators to partake in concessions. As time has passed, grabbing a bite to eat, or a thirst-quenching beverage has become part of the experience. Though a good number of fans may not realize it, one organization- the National W Club-has been contracted to handle these matters for over half a century.
But, as Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal points out, that is all coming to an end. Recently, university officials requested that the W Club back out of the final three years of its agreement. This week, the club’s board voted to grant that request. UW is now in a search for a provider for the upcoming 2013-14 athletic seasons.
Moving to the gridiron, the time has been set for the 2013 homecoming game. Wisconsin takes on Northwestern on Oct. 12 and kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
Sticking with football news, our sister site, The B1G Time, is nearly midway through its countdown of the top-25 conference football players heading into the 2013 season. Badgers running back James White and wide receiver Jared Abbrederis were each featured this week. Follow the links to find out where they ranked.
Finally, because there is no way we were going to let this slide: check this out, for your viewing pleasure.
