After nearly 5 months of baseball, the season comes down to the next 32 games. The Brewers currently stand at 65-65, a game and a half out of first place. Tonight the Crew starts a three game series against the first place Cubs. The Brewers have been in a free fall since the All-Star break, sporting the worst record in the NL Central.
The only outcome of this series that will seriously hurt the Brewers would be a Cubs sweep. The (hopeful) return of Ben Sheets either Wednesday or Thursday should serve as a huge shot of adrenaline for the team. Sheets has been sorely missed in the rotation and any chance of the Brewers making the playoffs depends on his health in September.
Tonight is the exact situation in which the Brewers gave Jeff Suppan $42 million to shine in. He needs to live up to his hype as a big-game, second half of the year pitcher. A win tonight will set the tone for not only the series but the rest of the season as well.
The bats are alive and well for the Brewers so it’s now time for the pitching staff to hold up their end of the bargain. It’s almost game time so I need to grab a Miller and get comfy. GO CREW!!!
