Happy Tuesday Morning Cougar Fans. I hope this post finds you doing well, and has allowed you to digest the two bombs that were dropped over here yesterday. The final two remaining Blog Fathers have said their goodbye as regular contributors on this site. Sutra/Brinkhate/Kahn/Kletis and Sean were the original masterminds of this here site that has produced over 1,000,000 pageviews in its lifetime and almost 1,000,000 unique visitors as well!
I remember when I first discovered this place, it must have been sometime in the Summer of 2008 when I was working in inside sales, and looking for something to read during lunch. I remember reading something being written about Chima Nwachuku to the tune of “As a freshmen CB last year, Chima was used like a Tri Delt Freshmen.”
To me, this was different than some of the other sugar coated content that is out there, I got that joke, it was for me. For over a year (and to this day) this site was one off my regular surfing haunts, and then Hawk asked me to guest comment after the Notre Dame in San Antonio. I had a blast writing it from my Blackberry, in my hotel bed, with a raging hangover, the day after the game (Halloween too). Since I came on full time in early 2010, every post I’ve written has been a treat for me, and I thank Sean and Michael, for not only starting this beautiful place, but for letting it become part of who I am.
Here are a few other great things about this site. It’s free, it’s content is original, it’s content doesn’t always paint a happy picture, our readers comments aren’t frowned upon and regardless of what you say, you will never be blocked from commenting. On the flip side, one of the difficult things about running a blog is that it can be time consuming and there isn’t a lot in it for us (see, straight cash homie) than pure joy in something that each of us writers are about.
So again, to write something each and every week, and usually multiple times each week, takes a lot of time, patience and energy. So one last time, like those damned annoying Bud Light ads, here’s to you Sutra and Sean.
I feel a bit like Garth Algar in Wayne’s World when Wayne walks off the set. It’s the filming of their first episode, after signing a major TV deal and during a commercial break, Wayne walks away out of disgust with management. So I feel a bit like Garth. On the couch, alone, looking like a deer in headlights.
The good thing is we have a stable of smart, sports savvy, entertaining writers who will be here giving you the scoop on everything Wazzu from here on. It may be a bit rocky at first, but I promise you, it will continue to be work it. Just click on our names on the left side-bar.
Later this week, Wazzu returns to Century Link Field, where they went 5-3 from 2002-2009. An interesting note, but this game with Oregon State, which features Wazzu as a 4.5 point favorite, is the first time we have been favored in a conference game, during the Paul Wulff era. Think about that for second.
Again, this is the first time we have been favored in a conference game, during the Paul Wulff era.
Those are the kind of ashes the program is rising from, but the team is not beyond criticizing.
I blasted Sturdy and the offensive skill players after the UCLA game, for putting the defense in “stop ’em or else” situation. This week, I want to call out another group of players, and those are our Wide Receivers. There have been some very well documented mistakes the last two weeks by this unit, and if we want to get back to .500 in-conference play and eventually get to a bowl game, these guys simply must play better!
No more turnovers and drops, and no more running the wrong route to watch your QB throw an INT that ends the game.
Step up, like the elite level of receiver that you are, and get this thing done on Saturday and beyond. Without you, we will struggle to score points, and if we struggle to score points, we won’t be winning any more football games this season. If we don’t win at least two more games, at least two more games this season, your coaches will be looking for new jobs.
Get it done!
