We don’t fully know what kind of factors will get Cincinnati to the at large spot in the group of 5 or even a potential, there’s a small, small chance but there is potential, of a playoff birth. One of them will be strength of schedule. A category in which Cincinnati’s opponents have not helped them at all. Just looking at the results of the first two weekends of football, we see a lot of losses and not very many wins.
Toledo – L 49-24 to Missouri – 1-1
Miami – L 17-10 to Eastern Kentucky – 0-2
Ohio State – L 35-21 to Virginia Tech – 1-1
Memphis – L 42-35 to UCLA – 1-1
Miami (Fl) – L week 1 to Louisville – 1-1
SMU – L 43-6 to North Texas – 0-2
South Florida – L 24-17 to Maryland – 1-1
Tulane – L 38-17 to Georgia Tech – 0-2
East Carolina – L 33-23 to South Carolina – 1-1
Connecticut – L week 1 to BYU – 1-1
Temple – L 31-24 to Navy – 1-1
Houston – L week 1 to Texas-San Antonio – 1-1
Opponent Record: 9-15
In two weeks, Cincinnati has had everyone on their schedule lose at least once. Kind of insane. Also very brutal when the best schedule needed is incredibly important considering the league Cincinnati plays in. Not the best of weekends for Cincinnati’s future outlook.
