FIGHT: Dustin Kimura vs. Guy Delumeau
DATE: November 17
CARD: Pacific Xtreme Combat 34
VENUE: Smart Araneta Coliseum
LOCATION: Quezon City, Philippines
RESULT: Kimura R3 KO
JUDGES’ SCORECARD: n/a
MY SCORECARD: n/a
PLAY-BY-PLAY: (via MMA-in-Asia)
Delumeau fights out of Gutsman in Japan, a gym that lives up to its name by basically fighting everybody everywhere. Guy has fought many of the best names in Shooto and recently took Jon Shores to a decision in an incredibly competitive three-rounder. He is an all-rounder. Kimura – as his name hints at – is a Gracie Technics fighter with 5 out of 6 wins by submission – that is until he TKOed his last opponent with punches. Though undefeated, Kimura faces stiff competition in his PXC debut.

Delumeau and Kimura both come out with a surprising stand up game, and it stays there for a whole three rounds. Delumeau lands some bombs, but it’s Kimura who looks much stronger with his striking towards the end of the round, delivering a big right to knock Delumeau for a loop.

Round 1 – Jacoby works kicks early. Camozzi charges, but Jacoby tosses him into the cage and resets. The trade hooks, and Camozzi gets the better of it. Camozzi checks a body kick, and a timeout is called as Jacoby takes an accidental kick to the baby-maker. On the restart, Jacoby lunges with punches that are short and then eats a leg kick. Camozzi tries a knee and eats a right that he easily shakes off. The trade leather again, and both land. They continue winging power punches, though neither seems affected. Camozzi now takes a shot to the crotch. After a brief timeout, Jaocy lands a nice inside leg kick and lands two clean punches. Jacoby pops him with a nice left, and Camozzi chases but can’t corral him. Camozzi chases again and is countered and tagged. Jacoby lands a lunging right to the body and resets. The pace slows, and both miss with lunging punches. Jacoby avoids a single-leg takedown and pops Camozzi with a counter. As Jacoby rushes back up, Camozzi slaps on a guillotine. Jacoby frantically tries to free himself, but Camozzi locks it up and quickly gets the tap.

MY SCORECARD: 30-27 Clementi
PLAY-BY-PLAY: (via TheMMAReport)
Round 1 – Sarnavskiy came out confident and landed several strikes, but Clement went for the takedown and jumped on the back of his opponent. Clementi looked to lock in a rear-naked choke. While looking for the choke, Clementi threw strikes in attempt to soften up Sarnavskiy for the choke hold. Clementi would end up locking in the rear-naked choke, but Sarnavskiy would some how survive the submission and make it to the end of the round.

Round 2 – Sarnavskiy opened the second round with several unanswered strikes and Clementi took the fight to the ground. He would be in top position and would once again get the back of Sarnavskiy. After being stood up, Sarnavskiy landed strikes that appeared to rock Clementi and he took the fight to the ground as the round ended.

Round 3 – At the start of the round, Sarnavskiy landed several big shots and dropped Clementi. While on the ground, Clementi looked for a toe hold, but that was unsuccessful. Sarnavskiy would end the round having Clementi in a triangle, but the round would end before he was in danger.

FIGHT: Denniston Sutherland vs. Scott Askham
DATE: December 8
CARD: Cage Warriors 50
VENUE: Kelvin Hall
LOCATION: Glasgow, Scotland
RESULT: Askham UD
JUDGES’ SCORECARD: 30-27 Askham, 30-27 Askham, 29-28 Askham
MY SCORECARD: 29-28 Askham
PLAY-BY-PLAY: (via FightNetwork)
Round 1: Strikes immediately start flying as soon as the bell sounds with Askham landing a hard body kick. Askham connects with a solid punch that dazes Sutherland and causes him to fall to the mat. Askham wastes no time pouncing on him but Sutherland is savvy enough to survive the onslaught and regain guard. Askham continues to pound away with short shots but nothing serious enough to cause damage. Out of nowhere Sutherland explodes to his feet but eats a couple of knees on the way up. Sutherland separates momentarily before getting tagged by a hard hook and a series of vicious knee strikes. Sutherland should be out cold but he manages to get away. 15 seconds left in the round and just for good measure Askham takes Sutherland down.

Round 2: Sutherland on wobbly legs to start the second round. Askham attempts a head kick but it’s blocked. Askham achieves a thai clinch and scores a couple knees but to the credit of Sutherland, he storms back and slams Askham to the mat. Sutherland working from open guard but he’s too weary of possible submission attempts to be aggressive. Sutherland stands up and kicks away at the legs of Askham before eventually letting him up. Back standing, Askham is the cleaner striker, landing hard with the left hand before clinching up with Sutherland and backing him up to the cage. 10 seconds left, Sutherland is able to push Askham to the canvas before calmly walking way. Very close round.

Round 3: Sutherland looking completely spent but is showing heart by moving forward. Askham closes the distance and ties him up, but he himself is also quite exhausted and is unwilling to commit to a serious attack. They separate and it’s Sutherland who is the more active fighter, moving forward behind his punches. Couple good strikes connect for Askham followed by a head kick that grazes Sutherland. Askham follows up his attack and clinches back up with Sutherland against the fence. Sutherland desperate to separate and finish this fight but Askham won’t allow him to break away even for a moment. 30 second remaining in the fight, Askham uses his last bit of energy and takes Sutherland down hard.

Healy has Kelly against the cage and lands a couple uppercuts before they separate. Healy shoots and is easily stuffed. They trade single collar ties and dirty box for a bit. They clinch up again and Kelly lands some good short elbows. Kelly has his hands low as they trade punches and clinch again. Good short elbows by both men. Healy keeps securing the clinch and getting off first, but when Kelly counters he seems to be landing good shots. Good round so far, a minute to go. Healy pushes Kelly up against the cage and gets a takedown. Kelly is working for a guillotine but Healy pops his head out and works his ground and pound. Healy drops for a crucifix and lands some good shots as the round ends.

Round two: Kelly with a nice uppercut, they clinch up again. Healy looks to push Kelly to the fence. Big knee by Kelly but Healy drops down for a takedown and has it. Same way they ended the first round. Kelly cage walks back to his feet, Healy takes him down again, Kelly uses a guillotine attempt to sweep Healy over but can’t hold position and Healy is back on top. Some good ground and pound from Healy and then Kelly turns the tables on him, working for his own takedown against the cage. They jockey for position and Healy overpowers him to the mat. Healy in half guard, dropping some short elbows and now he’s working the body. Kelly looks to be a little tired. Healy staying heavy on top, now he works for back control. 90 seconds left in this round. Healy tries for the crucifix again. Can’t quite make it happen and he’s content to throw punches to Kelly’s body. Kelly gets back up and now drops down for a guillotine choke and it’s tight. 30 seconds left in the round, Healy is hand fighting to avoid the submission and he pops his head free. Full closed guard. Healy postures free and throws some big punches as the round ends.

Round three: They take the center of the cage and trade big punches. Kelly has a nice lead uppercut going, Healy is throwing hooks. After thirty seconds Healy gets Kelly up against the cage again, leans on him and gets the takedown. Kelly is in the turtle position, but defends well and now he’s reversed Healy. Not much damage being done by either man as they jockey for position and Kelly has Healy on his back in full guard. Kelly working the ground and pound and now he grabs ahold of Healy’s neck for another guillotine. This time he has one butterfly hook in but can’t finish. Healy on top, throwing good punches to the body. A nice pass into side control by Healy but Kelly bucks him off and almost takes the back in a scramble. Can’t secure position and now with a minute left in the round Healy moves to full mount and takes the back. Frantic grappling action now as Kelly escapes the position and ends up attempting a funky, no-arm-in triangle. Nothing doing though and the fight ends with Healy on top. FIGHT: James Terry vs. Nah-Shon Burrell
DATE: January 7
CARD: Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine
VENUE: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
LOCATION: Paradise, Nevada
RESULT: Burrell SD
JUDGES’ SCORECARD: 29-28 Burrell, 29-28 Terry, 29-28 Burrell
MY SCORECARD: 29-29
PLAY-BY-PLAY: (via Sherdog)
Round 1: One of Terry’s first strikes, an inside thigh kick, grazes Burrell low, but Nah-Shon waves it off. A nice left hand comes through for Burrell and Terry answers with a flush overhand right. Terry ducks a punch and clings to Burrell’s left leg, then wraps up the right to bring his man to the canvas. Terry scoots Burrell around with ease, passing Burrell’s wide open guard to half-guard on the left. Burrell digs an underhook and gets to his knees, slipping a loose guillotine attempt. Terry drags Burrell back to the ground quickly and hops into full mount, but the natural 170-pounder Burrell simply sits up to escape. Terry keeps Burrell on his knees and whips around to his kneeling opponent’s back. Burrell sits down to deny the hooks and stands back up, putting his back to the fence to slide Terry off. Terry stays on the legs and pulls Burrell back down with 35 seconds to go. They stall out and stand up, Terry landing a Superman punch and Burrell a glancing uppercut before the horn.

Round 2: Terry tries to walk inside with punches and gets countered with a stiff left. Clipping Burrell with a right hand, Terry gets inside and puts his man on the cage before once more dumping him to the ground. Burrell tries to turn and stand, allowing Terry to slip onto his back, but again Terry can’t get the hooks. They’re vertical again and Terry is showing the quicker hands, zapping Burrell with one-twos when he steps inside on the larger man. Burrell catches Terry with a counter right and Terry is looking to clinch soon after. A few more Burrell rights find their marks as they resume throwing with just over a minute to go. Terry wants another takedown and gets a single-leg on the fence, where they stay until the final seconds.

Round 3: Burrell is walking straight ahead, going headhunting with power punches. Many are slipping off the gloves and forearms of the backpedaling Terry, but enough are getting through that Burrell keeps coming. Knees, lead uppercuts and jabs are accumulating until 90 seconds in, when Terry stops moving backward and starts whipping out his own jab. A lead uppercut from Burrell seems to stun Terry and Burrell tries to capitalize with a combo and a leaping knee, to no avail. Terry is measuring up shots now, throwing single punches to keep active but not landing much. Burrell has a left head kick blocked and Terry jogs out to his right. Burrell looks spent but his single shots are coming through, sweeping right hooks and big uppercuts. Terry drives on a single-leg with 30 seconds left but quickly abandons it in favor of clinching. Burrell pulls guard on the fence with a last-second guillotine attempt, but it’s not there.
