FIGHT: Jordan Mein vs. Tyler Stinson
DATE: July 14
CARD: Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy
VENUE: Rose Garden
LOCATION: Portland, Oregon
RESULT: Mein UD
JUDGES’ SCORECARD: 30-27 Mein, 30-27 Mein, 30-27 Mein
MY SCORECARD: 30-27 Mein
PLAY-BY-PLAY: (via Bleacher Report/Matt Roth)
Round 1: Mein lands a nice counter right hand as Stinson comes in. In an exchange Mein connects with the right hand again. He’s already found a home for that right as he’s landed it several times. Stinson comes forward and Mein connects again with the right as he steps aside. Stinson already has some swelling under his right eye. He needs to either change levels or start working his combinations better. Mein is very fluid with his combinations. Super sharp and nice head movement as well. Stinson’s right eye is now bleeding. This is great start for Mein. Mein takes one on the chin and walks through it. A left hook staggers Stinson. Mein is looking to finish the fight and he has 90 seconds to do it in the first. Stinson isn’t going out without a fight as he connects with his own left. Stinson’s face is painted red and that cut is flowing. Mein with a hook to the body and the round comes to an end.
Round 2: Stinson looks good at the open of the round. He’s landing some leg kicks but Mein responds with a gorgeous body shot and then a hook to the head. Again with the same combination and Mein is looking great. Stinson’s eye is almost completely swollen shut. Overhand left for Mein and Stinson responds with his own combinations. Quick 1-2 combo for Mein lands. And the body shot-left hook combination lands again. Stinson is trying to stay in this fight but Mein’s just cruising. Nice leg kicks from Mein and Stinson responds with a kick to the body. Stinson finally changes levels and gets Mein to the ground but Jordan’s right back to his feet. Mein throws a spinning backfist and comes up empty.
Round 3: Stinson knows he’s down on the cards and is aggressive at the opening of the round. Mein is just putting on a clinic at this point. He’s picking Stinson apart and landing that body shot/straight combo over and over again. He’s leaving himself open for counter shots but he’s just too good on the feet. Stinson’s fighting Mein’s fight and that’s the big difference maker in this fight. Nice uppercut from Mein and some short hooks against the cage. Stinson with a nice uppercut but Mein responds with a leaping uppercut to the chin. This is like a surgeon performing in an OR. Stinson with a body kick but Mein keeps coming forward. Mein is fantastic with the striking defense, just avoiding taking damage. The fighters are exchanging punches in the center of the cage to close the fight. Absolutely brilliant performance from Jordan Mein. Tyler Stinson is a tough dude.

Round 2 started out as a stand-up and clinch battle with both fighters trying for the takedown. In round 3 both fighters came out swinging and they went to the ground quickly. Ioannou in position then Speechly then Ioannou again and then Speechly again. The fans were going crazy. FIGHT: Jim Wallhead vs. Lyman Good
DATE: September 28
CARD: Bellator 74
VENUE: Caesars Atlantic City
LOCATION: Atlantic City, New Jersey
RESULT: Good UD
JUDGES’ SCORECARD: 29-27 Good, 29-27 Good, 29-27 Good
MY SCORECARD: 29-27 Good
PLAY-BY-PLAY: (via ProMMAnow)
Round 1: It was clear from the start that Wallhead wanted to clinch, and Good wanted to strike. Wallhead tried to neck wrestle, while Good worked his body with hooks. Good got the better of the striking at range and in the clinch. However, he seemed tentative in the clinch as if he was worried about a takedown.
Round 2: The second round started the same as the first. Wallhead actually went for a takedown in the clinch this time, but it did not come close. Good tried to fight more on the outside, and it started to work for hi. Around the 3:30 mark he backed Wallhead into the cage with strikes. About a minute later, he started feeling it. He began to work his kicks and punches in combination, and the strikes were landing. Save for the occasional counter hook, Wallhead really had very little offense in this round.
Round 3: The crowd chanted “Lyman” earlier in the third. Wallhead tried a double from very far and ate a knee for his trouble. In a clinch, Good landed a low knee that sent the Brit to his knees. After a brief stop, Good continued to score with straight punches and hooks in the clinch. Solid performance from the former champion. It was clear from the beginning that Wallhead had very little to trouble him. The fighters tried to flurry for the bell, and in the process a shot catches Wallhead in the groin. Dan Miragliotta in inexplicably takes a point away.

Round 1 – Gasper Oliver on duty as the third man once again. They dance around for 30 seconds, seeing what looks best. A left hook from Ramos misses, and a kick has him slipping to his backside. Brown just misses a nice high kick, and Ramos ties him up along the wall. Finally he gets the fight to the ground and is briefly in side control before Brown gets back up. But on the feet, Ramos keeps him tied up along the fence. Brown is able to jockey briefly to reverse, then finally they break apart. Brown lands an inside left hook, and Brown returns with one of his own before needing to block a decent high kick from Ramos. Ramos tries to kick Brown’s lead leg out, but Brown stays standing. Then he lands a nice couple of jabs. They trade leg kicks, then Brown gets a quick clinch and a knee. They trade position on the fence again with about a minute left. Not a ton happening, and with 10 seconds left Oliver steps in to break it up. He does so just in time for them to split with no time left to do anything.
Round 2 – They trade body kicks and punches, then leg kicks back and forth. Ramos lands a couple nice punches that have Brown backing up, and Ramos uses that to tie him up on the cage. Brown holds on as Ramos drops down for a level change. The takedown’s not going to be there for him, though, and he comes back to eye level. They push off and go back to the middle, where Brown briefly catches a kick. But when he throws one of his own, Ramos catches it, too. Brown gets a Thai clinch and looks for a big knee. It doesn’t happen, but back in the middle he lands a sweet inside right hook and a knee, and Ramos is bloodied up around the nose. Good left jab from Brown, then a right. Then a couple more. Ramos returns fire, but Brown seems to have taken control on the feet. Which is probably why Ramos then shoots in. No takedown, though, and Brown ties him up and lands some big knees. At will, at this point. Oliver is looking in closely, and Ramos is clearly dazed and hanging on just to stay in the thing. He ties Brown up, but really it’s all defense. They break and Brown goes back to work with the knees and punches. He has Ramos on the ropes and he won’t last long. Up against the fence, Brown continues to work him over before Oliver finally steps in to shut it down. Ramos never hit the ground, but the fence helped him out.
