The triple trap door to Redskins hell once again opened up wide this last preseason game against the Lions. The triple door of
- horrific offensive line play
- RG3 pretending he is something he isn’t and
- bad head coaching decisions.
This time it was Gruden instead of Shanahan. We know by now that Jay Gruden as an ‘offensive genius’ and a great ‘quarterback coach’ is just plain snake oil. He’s actually a very intelligent person and very personable and given time, maybe he will be a good head coach. But probably not this year, given the preseason evidence.
The offensive line will be average or above average by the end of the year, but they will likely look bad against Miami in the season opener.
RG3 is just a tragic figure. Here’s a guy with a vision of who he is and despite lots of extraordinary talent, it’s just not matching up with reality. He is a statue in the pocket, an easy target for huge defensive lineman. He just doesn’t have the awareness or humility to take a simple side step. It’s either stay in the pocket and absorb huge hits, or take off sprinting. For all of us that have had emotional pain from early success that we really wanted but did not get, we can count our blessings as we see the true curse that early success has cast upon RG3.
The best thing for RG3 right now would be to be traded and be a second string QB behind an Aaron Rodgers or Brady for a few years and then give this QB thing another try. But Snyder will not let that happen.
The only man with a QB plan was Scot McCloughan the GM, but that plan sank when Connor Halliday quit on the Redskins before his first snap in the NFL. Now the Redskins are really stuck with zero starting QBs on their roster.
We all know there is a chess match going on with RG3 as the piece and the players are Snyder, Gruden and McCloughan.
The guaranteed losers of this match are RG3 and the Redskins’ fans.
