The Twins have melted down

The Twins have melted downLike a thunderclap in the night, the Twins have completely imploded. Within the last week, the team added Scott Diamond and sent Liam Hendriks down. They called up Brian Dozier and sent Justin Morneau to the DL. They cut Clete Thomas and added Erik Komatsu. So far so good (I guess). They won a game!

So the die has been cast. They needed more changes. After the game tonight, they designated Matt Maloney for assignment to make room for P.J. Walters, who will be inserted into the Twins rotation. But wait! Maloney was a reliever! Yep. Francisco Liriano is being moved to the bullpen to take Maloney’s spot.

At this point you may be doing one of two things. You might be saying “holy crap, that’s a lot of moves!” Or you might be saying “Why is Danny Valencia on the top of the page?” It’s because he was demoted too! The Twins are calling up Darin Mastroianni, a speedster (team speed!) who may play outfield or infield. But the plan is for some sort of blend of of Alexi Casilla, Jamey Carroll and Trevor Plouffe at third.

That doesn’t sound great, does it? No power, no major prospects, nothing really to be excited about. The worst part? There likely aren’t any feasible options better than this.
