It is being reported the commission that runs the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum is in the final stages with Verizon on a contract for naming rights for the venerable old stadium.
Near the end of the football season, computer security company McAfee did not renew their naming agreement, causing the McAfee signs to be painted over and the Coliseum with no corporate name.
The Coliseum is the home to both the Oakland A’s and the Oakland Raiders. Since the stadium opened in 1968 it has hosted numerous NFL and MLB playoff games, one MLB All Star game, and six World Series.
They could revive the nickname of “The Net” that was prevalent when the naming rights were owned by Network Associates with a minor change. “It’s the Network.”
