The Tennessee Titans select Alphonso Smith in MVN Outsider’s mock draft

Total Titans has been asked to make Tennessee’s first-round selection in MVN Outsider‘s mock draft.
 
Drexel and I are in agreement on Wake Forest CB Alphonso Smith. The choice of a cornerback shouldn’t surprise any of you, since we’ve both written a lot about the need for a corner early in the draft.
 
Cornerbacks Malcolm Jenkins, Vontae Davis and Sean Smith were already selected in the mock and were no longer on the board.
 
D.J. Moore and Darius Butler also received our consideration, as did Jairus Byrd.

For those of you who would like to see the Titans go with a receiver in the first round, it was a no-can-do situation for us in this mock draft. Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, Hakeem Nicks, Darius Heyward-Bey and Percy Harvin were all claimed by writers for other teams and were no longer available.
 
If you’re wondering why MVN Outsider doesn’t reflect all of that info, it’s because the picks are being made first with articles to follow. Either Drexel or I will write something for Outsider about our selection next week.

In Drexel’s most recent article about corners, he looked at some of the players the Titans might potentially draft in the first round. I’ll probably expand on that a little in a few days by looking at the other cornerbacks the Titans might consider in later rounds. Tennessee usually carries around ten defensive backs on the roster, with about five or six of them being cornerbacks. They only have three now, so it won’t surprise me at all if they select several of them in this year’s draft.
