With their complementary pick in the sixth round, pick #206 overall, the Titans have selected another receiver, Dominique Edison of Stephen F. Austin. He joins #1 selection Kenny Britt as much-needed additions to a thin wide receiver corps.
Edison followed up a prolific senior season (67 catches, 1,106 yards, 18 scores) with an impressive combine. I’m not too worried about the “lack of competition” label on him because of his scouting report. The same label was applied to Steve McNair and Cortland Finnegan, among others. Also to a couple of guys named Walter Payton and Jerry Rice.
Edison has size and speed (4.47 40) to add to his scouting report. Now he’ll just have to prove himself on the NFL level.
Just as Chris Henry has to worry about competition in the stable of running backs, receivers Chris Davis and Paul Williams have to be concerned about their job security as well. Training camp will be all about competing and Edison will bring some depth and needed competition to the wideout position.
What does the “F” in Stephen F. Austin stand for anyway?
