Many Red Sox fans were not happy when Theo Epstein tried to trade fan favorite Mike Lowell to the Rangers and replace him with Adrian Beltre. Today Mike Lowell told reporters that his hip has not improved:
“I don’t know if it was my optimism — I do believe that that’s what I was told, was that it was going to get better. In that sense, would I compare it to like I’m running in ’07? No. I would say no. In that sense, it’s a little disappointing.
So even without the thumb injury that cancelled the trade to Texas, Mike Lowell was not going to regain the range and defense he had before the hip injury in 2008. Theo saw that and made arrangements to improve the team at third base and he deserves credit for it.
