John McKay was a well known Head Coach for the USC Trojans, and won 4 national Championships for USC, before agreeing to go to work for Hugh Culverhouse and the newest expansion team for the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. From a warrior to a pirate, McKay had to put up with media nonsense in his first two mostly winless seasons where his i-formation running attack was questioned as not being able to work in the Pros, and just another example on how a college coach cannot make the jump to the Pro level. Two years after his 0-26 start with the Bucs, John McKay had his Orange men in the NFC Championship game playing against the Los Angeles Rams for the right to go to the Super Bowl. This season, in 2010, the Bucs will add McKays name to his very first NFL Player he drafted, Lee Roy Selmon, to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor. The ceremony likely will take place at yet another throwback sunday, of which the Bucs will announce this Wednesday which date that will be. One would assume the New Orleans Saints (First Bucs Win ever) or Detroit Lions ( former Bucs division mates) home games would be the most likely opponents for such a matchup, however don’t discount the Atlanta Falcons, whose man in the front office, Rich McKay, is son of John McKay and could be seen as a way to heal old wounds between the current regime and the McKay family. Stay tuned live to www.buccaneers.com as they will have the press conference as its happening!
