There’s no arguing Ryan Reaves’ fine

Ryan Reaves was handed a $3,024.19 fine, the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, for his elbow to the head of Anze Kopitar.

Here’s a quick video of the play if you missed it:

What this angle doesn’t show is that Reaves quickly glanced behind him and saw Kopitar was about to pass by prior to extending his elbow. Some believe Reaves used the butt of his stick to catch Kopitar in the face, but there aren’t any conclusive angles of the play.

Simply, the fine is the right decision. Reaves isn’t a repeat offender, but this play deserves an additional punishment. The officials completely missed this call out on the ice, but no Blues fan can sanely argue that it was a clean play.

Speaking of bad plays…

How did Scottie Upshall get away with this one?

That’s bad. If Reaves’ hit deserves a fine, Upshall’s deserves a suspension.
