In the absence Alexei Yashin, who was refusing to honour his contract (shocking, I know), on this day in 1995, Senators forward Dan Quinn put together one of the greatest statistical performances in Senators history.
Squaring off in Tampa Bay against Ottawa’s expansion brethren Lightning, Quinn tallied an impressive six points playing amongst a wide array of NHL roster afterthoughts (I’m looking at you Scott Levins, Troy Mallette, Trent McCleary, Antti Tormanen, and Joe Cirella).
By scoring on each of the three shots (two on the power play) that he took and assisting on three others, Quinn’s performance stood on its own for six years before Radek Bonk matched the total on January 4th, 2001 against Tampa Bay. Only Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson are others who have replicated the performance and in Alfie’s case, he’s the only one to break Quinn’s original record with a seven-point performance on January 24th, 2008 – thirteen years later versus, you guessed it, the Tampa Bay Lightning.
These days, Quinn is probably more renowned for his golf skills than he is for his hockey career.
According to his Wikipedia page, a page that he probably maintains himself, Quinn is a regular competitor at the American Century Celebrity Golf Classic, the annual competition to determine the best golfers among American sports and entertainment celebrities. He won the tournament in 1992, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2012, and has a total of seventeen top ten finishes. The tournament, televised by NBC in July, is played at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
