Clippers 3 Durham Bulls 4 (Series tied 1-1)
The Clippers had built a 3-2 lead for starter Tyler Cloyd, who pitched seven innings before turning matters over to J.C. Ramirez in the eighth. Ramirez had an easy eighth but walked Vince Belnome with one out in the ninth. Ray Olmedo came in as a pinch runner, and bad things happened for the Clippers. Back-to-back singles through the right side of the infield by Nick Franklin and Mike Fontenot moved him around the bases.IL outfield assists leader Carlos Moncrief tried to make Olmedo his 23rd erasure of the season on Fontenot’s hit. But the throw and the runner arrived at the plate at the same time. The ball got away from catcher Dusty Brown and Olmedo retouched the plate to score. Just like their parent club, they let an important game slip away. Rehabbing outfielder David Murphy played the first seven innings; he was 0 for 3 with a walk.
Rubber Ducks 5 Richmond Flying Squirrels 1 (Ducks lead 2-0)
The RubberDucks got on the board in the third inning when Erik Gonzalez and Anthony Gallas hit back-to-back singles to lead off. Bryan LaHair drew a walk after that to load the bases with none out and Lavisky on deck. Akron’s catcher grounded out into a double play, but Gonzalez scored from third to give the Ducks a one-run lead. During the next at-bat, Joe Wendle singled in Gallas to extend his team’s advantage to 2-0.Richmond responded in the top of the fourth inning when it got a leadoff double from Kelby Tomlinson. Two groundouts later, the Flying Squirrels’ shortstop crossed home plate to cut the road team’s deficit to 2-1.Ollie Linton picked up where the RubberDucks left off when he led off the bottom of the fourth by legging out a triple that just got over first base and rolled into the right-field corner. Linton scored during the next at-bat on a wild pitch by Jack Snodgrass, extending Akron’s lead to 3-1. The Ducks added some insurance in the next inning when Jordan Smith blasted a two-out, two-run homer to right field, making the score 5-1 in favor of Akron after the fifth.
