With the trade deadline rapidly approaching and Rangers owner James Dolan talking Stanley Cup, Larry Brooks at the New York Post has a message for the Blueshirts organization…
“There is no single individual out there whose acquisition would install the Blueshirts as an odds-on choice to advance through two rounds, let alone three, much less win the Cup; not Rick Nash, not Shea Weber, not Ryan Sutter and not Bobby Ryan.
There is no individual whose acquisition is worth dismantling the program…This is not the time for a blockbuster; this is not the time for the GM to seek a shortcut through the building process.”
…man, I hope Sather is listening. And for the most part I think he is. For all the grief we give the Rangers GM, he is a smart man who undoubtedly has learned from previous mistakes and is more than aware that a high profile acquisition does not automatically lead to success.
…Sather and his staff have worked real hard to re-structure the Rangers organization, so I would be floored if they decided to tear it down with system draining trade deadline moves.
…wouldn’t mind a deadline deal though. For some reason I’m starting to think Doan could help this team.

On the same topic, Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com says the Rangers are one of a number of teams in the market for a top six forward.
LeBrun says these players may be available at the trade deadline:
Derek Roy, Brad Boyes and Drew Stafford in Buffalo; Vaclav Prospal, Antoine Vermette and Kristian Huselius in Columbus; Ales Hemsky in Edmonton; Tuomo Ruutu in Carolina; and the suddenly hot Jason Blake in Anaheim.
LeBrun also mentions the potential of Anaheim’s Bobby Ryan being a trade target.
…the Rangers recent offensive struggles have made it apparent that another top six forward is needed, but not sure any of the above mentioned is worth losing picks or prospects over. No one can tell me that Wolski doesn’t have the potential to be better than any of these guys.
