This Is Volleyball Finally and Finals!

Men’s World Championships are coming to a climax as we wind down to the final match to determine the Champion.  Russia defeated Iran in the contest for fifth place, and the winners of the two semi-final matches are shown below.

  1. Brazil versus France. In the first semifinal bout we saw a tightly contested match before 9,121 dedicated Volleyball fans. Brazil’s dominant win in the first set proved to be the difference as Brazil defeated France in five sets by a score of 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 22-25, and 15-12. Lucarelli led the Brazilian squad and finished with 22 points for the day.
  1. Poland versus Germany. In the second semifinal confrontation we saw a back and forth battle, this time with 12,000 fans cheering primarily for Poland. The host nation topped Germany in four sets, 26-24, 28-26, 23-25, and 25-21. Wlazly led the Polish squad and also finished with 22 points for the day.

Two matches are on the schedule for tomorrow, Sunday 9/21, and these matches will finish the World Championships – 103 matches in seven cities and it’s now or never for both Brazil and Poland in Katowice. I give a slight edge to Poland because of the home crowd, but this match is virtually even.

I suspect this song reflects the thoughts of both the Brazilian team and the Polish team for tomorrow’s finals.

“You are the one I want. Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, the one that I need, Oh yes indeed.” From the song “You’re the One that I Want” written by John Farrar and immortalized by Olivia Newton-John in the movie Grease.

Let’s grow the game together – and watch the World Championship finals!
