I mentioned in the Links that Rosenborg lost to Metalist Kharkiv yesterday in Europa League play. European competitions go through the winter months, with a champion crowned in May. Most European domestic leagues do the same, from England to France, from Spain to Italy. In Norway, and across most of Scandinavia, they don’t follow this pattern, playing instead from May to November.
So this Europa League group stage that will take matches through December will continue after the Tippeligaen season is over. Yesterday’s match may indicate that the Norwegians had the right idea. Norway in winter is no place for soccer.
