Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will leave spring training camp in Clearwater, with an injury that apparently has hit a plateau. Utley has yet to play a game in spring training, leaving plenty of doubt to his availability for the 2012 season opener.
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. released the following statement (via Todd Zolecki);
“Chase’s rehab process has come to a bit of a plateau. He has made some strides but not enough to take the field. He is headed out of town for a few days to be evaluated by a specialist that has helped athletes overcome his issue. We anticipate that this trip will allow him to build on what he has already done with Scott Sheridan in order to get over the hump. He wants more than anything to be on the field with his teammates and we believe that this is a step in that direction.”
The concern over Utley is couple ed with the continuing Ryan Howard rehab status, which seems to be putting Howard’s 2012 status in much question as well.
Could the opening day lineup include Freddy Galvis and Ty Wigginton on the right side of the infield? How much confidence does this instill in you?
