Chase Utley Has a History of Dirty Slides

-7

During a seventh inning rally Saturday night, Chase Utley took out Ruben Tejada during what will likely be one of the more controversial plays of the Los Angeles Dodgers-New York Mets series.

The Mets shortstop would leave the game with a broken right leg. Utley, for his efforts, was somehow called safe and went on to score what would end up being the winning run.

First, the play everyone is talking about.

Now this.

If any of Utley’s antics this looks familiar, it’s because it wasn’t the first time the veteran has gone (way) out of his way to break up a potential double play. Back in September, he did this against the San Diego Padres.

Oh, and get this. This wasn’t even the first time Utley took out Tejada with a questionable slide. Check this out from 2010!

Following the play, Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. (a former shortstop, mind you) called it a “hard, clean play”…but what do you think? Is Utley a gutsy, old school player or should he be worried about reciprocation when the Dodgers head to The Big Apple Monday?!?
