Thoughts on The Game

Thoughts on The Game
*sparkle*

Let’s get right to it:

Terrelle Pryor carried the offense in the first half.

Predictably, Michigan’s defense sold out to stop the run and pressure Pryor early in the game, leaving an already vulnerable secondary even more open to a passing attack. While Michigan was successful at stopping the run, they were not successful at pressuring Pryor into making mistakes.

After a slow start, Pryor was able to pick apart the Wolverine secondary on the way to opening up a 24-7 halftime lead. While Pryor has yet to achieve the efficiency and consistency of Troy smith circa 2006, he has proven to be more than capable of beating teams with his arm, and he has done so repeatedly this season.

Speaking of Smith, Pryor also joins to elite group of Ohio State quarterbacks that have posted 3-0 marks against that school up north. Not too shabby.

Is there room for improvement? Of course. At the same time, Troy Smith was a 5th year senior during his epic 2006 campaign, Vince Young was a 4th year junior during his epic 2005 campaign.

If Pryor returns next season, it will be for his fourth year. It should be a good one. The momentum starts in the bowl game.

Boom Herron carried the offense in the second half.

Thoughts on The Game
Deja vu all over again.

Predictably, the Michigan defense wore down as the game progressed. After taking a back seat to the passing game in the first half, in typical Tressel cruise control fashion, the running game took precedence in the second.

Leading the ground attack was Mr. Herron, who not only had the third best rushing performance ever against that school up north, but accumulated all of his yards in the second half. On top of that, Boom eclipsed the 1000 yard mark for the season.

All in all, it was an outstanding day (or at least second half) for Boom and, lest we forget, the offensive line.

The defense carried the team…all game, as usual.

Thoughts on The Game
Greatness with a side of consistency.

What is there to say about the defense? They are great. More on that as we prepare for the bowl game.

And so on…

I understand that I am not talking about anything groundbreaking in this review that hasn’t already been covered, so I will be brief.

The refs stunk, Pryor looked good, not great but did enough to win (as usual), Herron looked great (for a half) and broke 1000 on the season, the defense was superb, the seniors stepped up across the board in the most important game of their lives, Travis Howard looks to have a bright future.

And so on…

Honestly, I am still recovering from a five day weekend and am trying to write this as fast as possible.

There will be plenty of time to reflect back and look to the future in the coming month as we wait to see what bowl game Ohio State will be playing in (early indications are the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas).

Stay tuned for more in depth analysis coming shortly. For right now, let us all bask in the glow of yet another victory over that school up north.

I promise to be more thorough once I catchup from the five day weekend hangover.
