Three Stars and Game in One Picture: CBJ @ NYI

The IMC needed a win, reeling from their loss on Demeter. Milita forces were storming the offices of Hammond Robotics in an attempt to cripple the IMC’s ability to deploy advanced robots in the field of combat. Thankfully for the IMC, the legendary Pilots, Maxim and RockmanHaloX effortlessly cut down the rebel attack and…

Also the Columbus Blue Jackets played a matinee game against the New York Islanders.

The Blue Jackets and their fans needed a rebound game after a woefully disappointing loss to the New York Rangers on Friday in Columbus. What they got instead was another pathetic showing in what I can only guess was a trap game. Starting off well, the Blue Jackets had a few chances early and like the last couple of games just couldn’t crack the goalie in front of them. They were lethargic and missing passes and rebounds, etc. It was a pretty hard to stomach game, honestly.

3rd Star: Cal Clutterbuck

Oh man, screw this guy. Why is it people the Jackets hate keep doing so well against us? Man.

2nd Star: Travis Hamonic

I guess the powerplay goal was pretty nice, but I bet he’s up here because it was his first goal PERIOD in over 40 games. Another common theme with the CBJ, apparently.

1st Star: Evgeni Nabokov

*sigh* Again, another goalie “stands on his head” against us. Perhaps it’s not just a hot goalie these last couple games, hm? That said, Nabokov got a shutout and while the Jackets weren’t testing him, they weren’t not shooting the puck…so I guess that deserves some recognition.

Stud: Optimistic Twitter fans

As you can imagine, the feeling of dread and anger was boiling over quite a bit on the internet, and a lot of fans (myself included) were slipping into that state of overwhelming pessimism. Thank goodness for these people, otherwise I’d be scooping my brain off the floor from the meltdown.

Dud: Power Play

It sucked.

Bad.

I don’t know hockey well enough to opine on just what the CBJ need to do to get their PP Unit in gear to start making a difference in these important games but whatever system they used today was not it.

We’re at the point where a lot of uneasiness is starting to bubble up and grab hold for more than a single period or game. What was once brooding confidence has now returned to the “woe is us” mentality from just a few seasons ago. Hopefully the Jackets give their heads a shake, man up and play better than they have been down the stretch.

Carry the Flag, Join the Battle and March On; this season isn’t done yet!
