On Tuesday night we saw two Big Ten teams clash, Penn State and Michigan State. We got to see the best of both teams in this one, but Michigan State came out on top. There were certainly a lot of take home points in this one.
1. Ross Travis is very underrated: I was expecting Michigan State to blow Penn State away in the rebounding category. I mean, Penn State is a weak rebounding team. Michigan State is a lot bigger than Penn State. All of the signs pointed to Michigan State owning Penn State tonight, but that didn’t stop Ross Travis from collecting seven rebounds. He was one of the few rebounding bright spots for the Nittany Lions. Seven rebounds is not that good looking, but when you realize that Penn State only collected 26 rebounds as a team, you begin to appreciate seven rebounds. Tom Izzo even said it in the post game press conference, Ross Travis surprised the Spartans with his rebounding. Hopefully more people will begin to realize that Ross Travis is a huge part of this Penn State team.
2. Tom Izzo is still the best coach in the Big Ten: The Spartans were down 47-40 coming out of halftime. They didn’t play well in the first half. It was up to their coach, Tom Izzo, to get them back on track for the second half. I would say that he did just that, because Michigan outscored Penn State 39-16 in the second half. Not many coaches can change a game that fast, like Izzo did. Tom Izzo is, still, the best coach in the Big Ten.
